Old Lyme, Conn. – Pakayak, a new environmentally friendly company that produces a high performance 14-foot packable kayak, has raised more than 81 percent of their crowdfunding goal with five days left in their Kickstarter campaign, the company announced Thursday.
Pakayak launched their Kickstarter campaign on June 16 with a crowdfunding goal of $427,325 and has raised more than $346,000 so far. Their innovative packable kayaks are currently available for pre-order on Kickstarter.
Their signature model, the Bluefin 14, is a hard-shell 14-foot touring kayak that can be broken down and nested within itself to a size of only three-and-a-half feet. The model’s interconnecting segmented design allows for effortless storage and travel for kayaking enthusiasts.
“We’re keeping our fingers crossed, but each day, as more and more people learn about Pakayak, the support and demand for our product grows,” said Doug Mackro, co-founder and CEO of Pakayak. “Pakayak makes kayaking available to everyone, regardless of their mode of transportation and storage capacities.”
Creating Pakayak has been a labor of love for the small team who have been working on the project since 2011.
The Pakayak Bluefin 14 is composed of six interconnecting sections weighing in at a total of 55 pounds and according to its creators, can be assembled in less than five minutes. In addition to its enhanced portability the Bluefin boasts a full list of features including, two watertight bulkheads, a padded folding seat, adjustable foot braces, reflective safety lines, bungee deck rigging and both front and rear handles.
Additionally, Pakayak is fully dedicated to ecological operation and a portion of their revenue will go to programs to help sustain the world’s marine ecosystems. All, manufacturing, assembly and distribution occur at one facility to minimize carbon emission and the company uses minimalistic recycled shipping materials to reduce waste.
About Pakayak:
Officially founded in 2016 and headquartered in Old Lyme, Connecticut, Pakayak was born out of the desire for a packable performance kayak. The design uses a system of interconnecting sections, which allows for Pakayak’s full-scale kayaks to nest within themselves for effortless storage and travel when not in use. Pakayak hulls are constructed from high-grade resin, specifically formulated for the kayak industry and utilize a system of patented clamps and seals to create a watertight and rigid performance kayak.

Old Lyme, Conn. – On Thursday, Pakayak, the maker of the ultimate packable performance kayak, launched a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign. By Monday, Pakayak had raised over $100,000 of their $427,325 goal and been listed by Kickstarter as a “Project We Love.”
The company has designed and successfully prototyped their first product, the Bluefin 14, a hard-shell 14-foot touring kayak that can be broken down and nested within itself to a size of only three and a half feet. The model’s interconnecting segmented design allows for effortless storage and travel for kayaking enthusiasts.
Pakayak is relying on crowdfunding support to bring its flagship product to market and needs to raise a total of $427,325 by July 26 to meet their goal.
Creating Pakayak has been a labor of love for the small team who have been working on the project since 2011.
“We are excited and extremely grateful for the support we have received since launching our Kickstarter campaign,” said Doug Mackro, co-founder and CEO of Pakayak. “We wanted to build a rigid boat that was portable, light and easy to store, yet long, sleek, and fast, making its performance indistinguishable from traditional, high-end kayaks. With the support of our backers we can make this happen.”
The Pakayak Bluefin 14 is composed of six interconnecting sections weighing in at a total of 55 pounds and according to its creators, can be assembled in less than five minutes. In addition to its enhanced portability the Bluefin boasts a full list of features including, two watertight hatches, watertight bulkheads fore and aft, a padded folding seat, adjustable foot braces, reflective safety lines, bungee deck rigging, front and rear carry handles, is rudder-ready and packs into their custom-made wheeled backpack bag.
Additionally, Pakayak is fully dedicated to ecological operation and a portion of their revenue will go to programs to help sustain the world’s marine ecosystems. All manufacturing, assembly and distribution occur at one facility to minimize carbon emission and the company uses minimalistic recycled shipping materials to reduce waste.

Connecticut Company Launches Hard-Shell Performance Packable Kayak – PAKAYAK
March 24, 2016
Old Lyme, CT – Pakayak, LLC, a Connecticut company is launching a new hard-shell performance, packable kayak that is about to revolutionize the market. Made in the U.S.A, the first model, a 14-foot touring/sea kayak nests inside itself and packs down to 3 ½ feet. It’s easy to carry, easy to store and eliminates the need for roof racks. Small apartment, small car, elevator, train – no problem. Pakayak goes everywhere, stores anywhere, with absolutely no sacrifice on performance.
Pakayak will be running a Kickstarter campaign in June to fund the development and continued improvement on the first model, the Bluefin 14. Pakayak will then be marketed directly through its website and be available at specialty canoe and kayak stores.
The Bluefin 14 weighs 55 pounds, has two watertight bulkheads, two large watertight hatches, plenty of deck rigging and a perimeter reflective safety cord. The cockpit is 18” x 34”. The expected retail is $1695.
Pakayak is proudly made in the USA and manufactures, assembles and ships from one central location which dramatically reduces its carbon footprint. The company also utilizes recycled materials for shipping. Additionally, they can ship 325 kayaks per truckload vs. the competition’s 48. This saves on transportation and fuel costs.
Pakayak is also committed to help save endangered marine animals and our oceans. To that end, a percentage of each Pakayak sold will go to a marine conservation / protection agency. For instance, a percentage of sales of the Bluefin model will be donated to the Pew Charitable Trust for Global Tuna Conservation who works to improve international agreements to protect Bluefin tuna.
